Why I Decided to Transform
I believe that everyone has a certain vision they go to sleep with and wake up with every day. For me, it was to have the body I always dreamed of. Growing up, I was never considered a skinny girl. I was always on the chubby side and used to tell myself that's the way it was. I used to say things like "I can never lose weight" and "This is just how I'm built." I got tired of making excuses and constantly accepting something that didn't have to be. I realized that weight isn't a disease unless you let it become one. With a little hard work and dedication, weight can be changed.
My brother has been into fitness and training for four years. I always used to see him prepare his meals, take supplements, and go to the gym 4-5 times per week. I used to make fun of him for being strict with his training and diet, but secretly admired his willpower and the time and effort he put into his goals. I wanted to set my own goals. He constantly tried to encourage me to hit the gym with him and I finally caved and accepted the challenge to set a goal and accomplish it. I wanted to feel a sense of pride. I wanted to show myself and others that I had the capability that everyone doubted.
After two months of consistent dieting and training, I saw results and was down 25 pounds. I was extremely proud of myself and had intense determination to keep going and further my results. I stopped craving junk food and began to crave results instead. I had amazing support from friends and family, and people at the gym encouraged me every step of the way. After 11 months of consistency and steady progress, I lost an incredible 74 pounds.
I realized you can do whatever you set your mind to. You can set out to be whatever you desire to be. The time you put into sulking and putting yourself down can easily be used to change and bring yourself up. If you want it bad enough, you have to work for it. You get what you put in and must always remember that miniscule results are better than none.
How I Accomplished My Goals
I accomplished my goals solely by believing in myself. I learned to stop looking at how much I still had to accomplish and focused on what I already accomplished. I had so many people supporting me throughout my journey. People at the gym cheered me on and complimented me on my results and my family was completely supportive.
My brother was my biggest supporter. He pushed and motivated me every day to train harder and get stronger. He believed in me every step of the way and I refused to let him and myself down.

Why I Decided to Transform

I used to be made fun of for my weight. The neighbor kids called me "Bulldozer" and I hated it. I was 135 pounds in the seventh grade at age 12. At age 14, my father passed away and it went downhill from there. I weighed 185 pounds as a high school freshman and couldn't find a diet that worked.
My big brother, Rob, did a bodybuilding competition a year later. I sat in the crowd, watched the figure girls strut on stage before my brother, and was in complete awe. I wanted to be them and said out loud that I would be one day. My brother said I had a long way to go, which sparked me to prove everyone wrong.
By my sophomore year of high school, at age 16, I had lost 20 pounds from researching about diets and training. As a junior, I weighed 135 pounds at age 17 and everyone noticed. I wasn't the fat girl anymore. I graduated high school and was happy, but my goal wasn't accomplished yet; I still had to compete.
I talked to local figure competitors who gave me lots of information and hired a trainer to start my journey. I stepped on stage at my first show weighing 123 pounds. My family saw me walk with complete confidence and show off the new me. It was the most empowering moment of my life. I didn't place, but I gave it my all. I competed 12 weeks later at NPC Teen Nationals in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and took second place at 116 pounds.
It's crazy to think I lost a total of 60 pounds. I'm noticed every day now at the gym or when I put gas in my car. I love the new me!
How I Accomplished My Goals
Transforming wasn't easy. I was in the gym every day and held myself accountable. If I got lazy, people pushed me to my full potential. When I hired a trainer, my body really changed. I was always excited to lift with him and never gave up. I knew what I ate was healthy and that the effort would pay off.
I found my comfort zone and stepped out of it. I knew it wouldn't be easy. When I first set foot in the gym, I felt like everyone was staring at my out-of-shape body. I was scared to dip my feet into the water. Now I know why people stare at me in the gym. I'm a girl with muscles. I lift like a guy and take charge in the gym.

Jen's cardio burned excess calories, but weight training perfected her body image. Her plan tore away 20 percent body fat and replaced it with muscle!

WHY I DECIDED TO TRANSFORM

I became a competitive gymnast at age two and a competitive cheerleader at age 10. I continued cheering and gymnastics throughout junior high and into high school. At the start of my junior year, girls started to give me a hard time about my weight. I wasn't overweight, but the girls were catty and loved drama. They always made comments about how my body didn't look as athletic as it performed. It didn't take long for the comments to bring me down.
I eventually stopped cheer and gymnastics because I was depressed. When I realized I shouldn't let girls bother me, I went to the gym and spent the entire summer before my senior year there. When school started, I did online classes and CrossFit, but it wasn't for me.
Two trainers at LA Fitness, Ron and Kevin, said I should look into fitness shows, but I wasn't sure where to start, so Ron and Kevin hooked me up with an amazing personal trainer named Janis Garrido. I started training with Janis in November 2012. She said if I worked hard enough I could enter a bikini competition.

I busted my butt every day and stepped on stage in March 2013 after three months of hard work and dedication. I placed fourth in the NPC bikini open class D. I was 17 years old and it was the best experience of my life. A few weeks after the show, I was offered a sponsorship from Total Nutrition in West Palm Beach, Florida.
I recently competed again on June 29, 2013, at the Anna level and placed fourth in teen and third in open class D to qualify for nationals. My goal is receive my pro card and get into fitness modeling. I did photo shoots recently with Jim Beriau and Corso Photography and had a blast. I don't consider this a onetime thing.

COOL FACT

JEN IS A CLOSET THRILL SEEKER WHO RODE ON ONE OF WORLD'S
LARGEST ZIP LINES AT LABADEE ISLAND IN HAITI!
This is my lifestyle and I do it because I enjoy it; not to prove girls from high school wrong. My journey is about being successful in the health and fitness industry by making an impact in the lives of others so they can reach their goals.

HOW I ACCOMPLISHED MY GOALS

I had my mind set to compete on March 16, 2013, at an NPC show in West Palm Beach, but knew I had to push myself. I wasn't in school full-time because I took online classes to avoid troubles at school. If I had to, I woke up at 4 a.m., finished cardio by 5 a.m., and was at my trainer's gym by 6 a.m. From there, I went to work and school, and made it to the gym again for more cardio and posing. I've never been a morning person, so I had to push myself.
My hands had calluses that killed me, but I sucked it up. My cardio was horrible at the start, but I kept pushing. My mind would tell me no, but my body kept going. I learned that the body will last longer than the mind. I stopped letting my mind take over my body and stepped on stage.

Amy Wolf

Amy entered high school as an unconfident, shy girl and left with muscles and passion for weights. See how powerlifting became this teen's go-to activity!

WHY I DECIDED TO TRANSFORM

I never fit into a clique growing up and was ugly, weird, and shy. When high school started, I still lived under that image. During my sophomore year of school, my volleyball team trained in the weight room a couple days per week and I loved lifting.
I'm very competitive and always wanted to out-lift the person next me. Gaining strength to stay ahead of everyone and building mass was the main reason I started lifting.
Weightlifting was a part of my life I refused to give up in college. I lifted at the recreational intramural center on campus and broke out of my shy girl shell. I met a ripped man named C.J. Jackson in the weight room and he took me on as a client and became my bodybuilding coach.
During the next year, I developed newfound confidence that stuck with me and filtered into my everyday life.

HOW I ACCOMPLISHED MY GOALS

It took dedication and willpower to stick with the diet and workout plan. Imagining the end result kept me going during my transformation. I engrained my ideal physique in the back of my head from the moment I embarked on the journey.
My coach was a key factor to my success. He made sure I stayed on track and pushed me from day one. I have to thank my lifting crew at Eastern Michigan University for motivating me to make sure I gave it my all during every workout.
